About Hook & Tell

Building cognitive immunity in the digital age.

This website was created to share knowledge about the information we intake every day.

Disinformation has existed for a long time. In fact, the core tactics haven't changed much since the days of ancient Rome, when leaders like Octavian and Mark Antony waged propaganda campaigns against one another. But in the modern day, something critical has changed: the speed and scale of the spread.

As the number of scams, propaganda, shallow fakes, and deep fakes increases, and as technological development makes it harder to distinguish the truth, a place where you can learn to protect yourself and others from bad actors is deeply needed.

Of course, it is impossible to become fully immune and completely "foolproof". But the more you know, the harder it is to influence and trick you.

Like a virus, it is hard to completely eradicate disinformation because of the sheer speed at which it spreads. But the more people become "immune," the higher the chance we have of stopping it in its tracks. Just as the dangerous lie that "smoking is good for your health" was eventually eradicated by a public that learned the truth, the same principle applies to modern digital deception.

How to use this site

Case Studies serves as a growing database of threat vectors. Each post breaks down a specific manipulation tactic, provides real-world context, and includes an interactive quiz so you can test your detection skills. I also include the sources I used to write each study, I highly recommend checking them up.

I hope you will find these resources useful.
